THINGS TO DO
|

Our
eight acre Rondavel
property is rich in Karoo flora and our guests are
most welcome to explore the garden and discover its treasures. We would be
delighted to accompany you and share our new-found knowledge of the wonderful
world of aloes and succulents, should you so wish. |

Our
Aloe collection continues to expand and we now have in excess of 50 South African Aloes growing in our garden. With the exception of a few requiring
positive identification, all have been labelled.
In
the cottage you will find a copy of 'Guide to the Aloes of South Africa' by
Ben-Erik van Wyk and Gideon Smith. Please feel free to take this wonderful
reference book with you on your walks in the garden, so that you may see the
splendour of these plants when in flower.

We
have placed benches in strategic spots for those seeking space
for reflection, painting and bird-watching. The bird
life is abundant, ranging from sunbirds sipping at the aloes to visiting
swallows from northern climes. |

Unexpected
surprises abound in the Aloe Cottage garden:
|
|
|
We have seen
steenbok, Cape hares, a yellow mongoose, tortoise and a striped polecat in the
early morning and evenings. Lizards, beetles and flying insects enjoy the
vegetation, flowers and rocks.
