Peace and tranquillity are the very essence of Aloe Cottage. Spacious, stylishly furnished, and with stunning views framed in every window, Aloe Cottage is well equipped for lengthy stays, comfortably sleeping 4 adults.   

Our comfortable, spacious lounge is stylishly furnished, kelims adding cosy warmth to the room. The paintings are by South African artists. There is a television and coffee reading comprises gardening and birding books. Magazines and other books of interest are available.

Crossword enthusiasts will find an Oxford Dictionary, a Thesaurus and Kritzinger’s Afrikaans/English dictionary on the writing desk The desk draw houses pens, writing pad and envelopes, and note paper useful for shopping lists.

 

The Aloe Cottage Welcome Folder offers a wealth of information – where to eat, what to see, what to do. By special arrangement with our delightful Librarian Reine, guests enjoying an extended visit may use the Aloe Cottage Library Card for that special holiday read. The card and carry bag will be found in the left hand desk drawer.  

The lounge opens onto a private north-facing patio. The meshed security gate allows guests to leave the door open throughout the night during summer, should they wish to do so. Fans and electric heaters are provided.

Your hosts, Laurie and Marlene, have put much thought and effort into meeting the needs and comforts of their guests, thereby ensuring them of a memorable visit to Prince Albert, in a home from home environment.

Entry from the covered carport into Aloe Cottage is from the south patio. This leads guests into a small hall where jackets and coats may be hung, and umbrellas stored.

The dining area, with its magnificent Swartberg Mountain views, is spacious and comfortably seats four around the locally made SA Blackwood table.

The (reclaimed) Oregon Pine dresser lends a country ambience and in it you will find quality stainless steel cutlery, imported white crockery and a variety of casserole dishes, salad bowls and other useful items. The gourmet kitchen provides everything else required for self-catering. 

Table linen, candles and serviettes are supplied to add to the romance of the evening.

The cooling breeze in summer is referred to by locals as ‘the Prince Albert air conditioner’. To take full advantage of the air conditioner, the security door has been meshed so that guests may enjoy the through draught both day and night.  

Guests choosing to dine out will find a list of restaurants, the cuisine they offer and their trading hours in the Welcome File. 

When it comes to equipping kitchens, Aloe Cottage must surely rate among the best. Much fun has been had by guests trying to find a useful item forgotten! We even supply the green grocery bag for your shopping!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It would seem that guests choosing the self catering option want to do just that – self cater.

Others again, would prefer to have a few basics provided. You will find breakfast provisions of fruit/juice, muesli and cereal, rusks, tea, coffee, milk and sugar. 

There is a selection of handy condiments on the shelf for your use – Olive oil, Balsamic Vinegar, Tomato sauce, Worcester sauce, Sunflower oil, Salt, Pepper and a few spices.

Should there be anything else you may require, please do not hesitate to mention this on the booking page.

Late arrivals please note that our supermarket closes at 6.00 pm, weekdays, and at 12.30 pm weekends and public holidays.  

 

 

 

Both air-conditioned bedrooms are cosy and inviting and are en-suite to shower rooms. 

One offers a queen size bed, the other, two extra length single beds. 

 

All linen and towels are provided, as well as a range of toiletries and hair drier. White cotton bathrobes are available upon request (at the time of booking). Down duvets and electric blankets ensure that you will be snug on even the coldest Karoo winter night.  

There are lovely views of the garden and of the Karoo plains in the distance. The furnishings are a blend of antique and contemporary, paintings by South African artists adorn the walls.

The north facing patio with its lovely views of the distant Karoo plains is ideal  for alfresco dining and barbeques. Comfortable patio furniture, privacy and tranquillity make this an ideal spot to relax, read or just reflect. For your convenience we provide a Weber barbeque, charcoal and firelighters.  

 

The south patio looks towards the majestic Swartberg range of mountains and enjoys unimpeded views of the Gordon’s Kopje Nature Reserve. Early risers will be drawn here to watch a stunning sunrise.

Aloe Cottage guests have their own drive-in entrance to the covered carport. The area is spacious, with plenty of room to park a trailer.

As can be seen from this photo, even the carport enjoys superb views of Prince Albert, nestling at the foot of the mighty Swartberg!

Aloe Cottage provides the following services:

  • By prior arrangement, we can do some basic shopping on your behalf to stock the larder.

 

Aloe Cottage is within easy walking distance of the village and one is perfectly safe wandering around Prince Albert. Aloe Cottage is also well positioned to enjoy numerous day drives.  

Guests may enjoy a stroll on our unique 8 acre property, where much of the land has been left undisturbed, reflecting the true wealth of our Karoo flora. Many of these plants have been labelled to add to your enjoyment. For easy reference, books on Karoo Aloes and Succulents are available in the cottage.  

The large garden, with strategically placed seating, is ideal for moments of quiet reflection. Botanical and landscape artists will find much to inspire their work. The views of the majestic Swartberg Mountain range are unsurpassed. The sunrises and sunsets seen from the vantage point of this hillside property are breathtaking.
